SHADES OF SUCCESS

Red has always signified passion and old-school
glamour, but now chromology experts have
found it also subconsciously transmits an
aura of success. Yes, really: inject a shot
of scarlet and we adapt to the colour’s
characteristics, taking on its strength and
dynamism. It’s also the colour the human
eye can most easily see in the dark. There’s
a reason why Hollywood starlets walk
down a red carpet.
Handily, red’s a huge trend this season,
with Prada, Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo
and Dries Van Noten all translating it
into wearable daytime style with midi
desses and skirt suits, Oscar de la Renta,
Nina Ricci and Donan Karan opted for
lavish floor-length gowns.
THE RED RULE BOOK
X Dare to wear it head to toe, but keep
lines sharp. No frills, no flounces.
X Don’t just match with black. Try camel,
grey… and red tights with a navy dress.
X Keep accessories simple, and stick to subtle
make-up. Or, for a big night out, match with red
lips for high-voltage glam.
