Chignons:

Front rows and after-parties are just as
much a hothouse for trend-spotting as the
international catwalks, and two celebrities
that had everyone talking at the Burberry
show were Emma Watson and Victoria
Beckham. Not two names you’d initially
put together, but both connected by their
fantastically unstructured hair; thrown
back off their faces, apparently without a
second thought… and they’re not alone.
Hairstylist Orlando Pita got theatrical
at the Carolina Herrera show with a
modern take on the chignon, weaving a
messy up-do with pins to keep it in place.
For your own scruffy chignon, spray hair
with Charles Worthington Front Row
Salt Spray (£5.99) while blasting with
a hair dryer, then pull into a low ponytail,
twist into a bun and secure with pins,
leaving ends loose. A spritz of CW
Shine spray (£5.99) will keep it glossy
and frizz-free.

THE LAVA SHELL
MASSAGE
The idea of a massage
with clam shells sounds
a little gimmicky and
brings to mind a barnaclecovered
Davy Jones
from Pirates Of The
Caribbean. Which is
why, when I sampled this
latest invention from spa
guru Dan Young, I was
pleasantly surprised.
First, my masseuse, two
shiny clam shells in hand,

heated up
the algae
inside the
clams with
water.
Then she
rubbed aromatherapy oils
over my back and used the
shells’ edges to smooth out
the tension in my muscles.
The party trick? When
she kneaded my stomach,
there was a tiny release of
air – the congestion in my
colon! It worked wonders
for my tummy; I walked out
feeling lighter than I’ve felt
in ages. Maybe if I go back,
l’ll finally squeeze into that
Hervé Leger Body-Con dress.
