Stylist about success, life and literature.
I’ve not seen the film of The Time Traveler’s r’sWife Wife
and I don’t think I ever will. It will never match
up to the movie I had in my head when I wrote
it. A lot of my fans contacted me when it came
out. They wanted to tell me that they had, hadn’t
or wouldn’t see the movie. I love the fact they
wanted to reach out for me.
People think there’s a template for love that
they have to achieve instead of looking at their
own situation and seeing the positives. Trying
to emulate something you see in a film only
leads to disappointment. My love stories are
complicated, because that’s real life.

My books feature the supernatural but I am a total
sceptic. In Symmetry there is a ghost story about
trees moving that was a real story told to me by a
close friend. I can’t put forward any firm theories,
but it is a beautiful idea.
I relax by taking really long baths. I’m the laziest
writer ever. Sometimes I take two baths a day.
I’m not particularly dirty, but it gives me time and
space to think. It’s a good way to clear your mind.
I’m currently reading The Emigrants by WG
Sebald. I’ve decided to read everything he wrote.
