Europe’s best
hotels revealed
The winners of the 12th annual
European Hotel Design Awards were
announced this week. The awards,
held at the Hilton Park Hotel on 2
November, were hosted by Mariella
Frostrup and celebrated the bestlooking
hotels in the business.
Although a range of winners
from all over Europe were honoured,
there’s no need to even leave the
country for award-winning luxury.
Brit hotel, Boundary, in east London
(3) scooped the top prize of Design
Of the Year. The stunning hotel
even has a rooftop bar which
rather considerately hands out
blankets to snuggle up in while

you enjoy a cocktail or two on a
chilly winter night.
Out of the 12 awards in total, our
favourite winners were the Copperhill
Mountain Lodge in Sweden (2) which
bagged the Spa, Health And Leisure
Facilities Award. Offering essential-oil
treatments and rejuvenating steam
baths, as well as dog sledding and
paragliding, the Copperhill gives the
ultimate winter design experience.
The Hospes Maricel in Mallorca (1)
bagged Best New Build, with its 22
deluxe rooms and suites, and a bar
overlooking the Med.
Frankfurt’s 25hours Hotel (4), with
its electric-blue reception desk and
bright pink walls, won Best Lobby
And Public Area, and the Vine
Suite of Portugal’s Vine Hotel (5)
won the Best Suite award, thanks
to its combination of luxurious
decor and hi-tech facilities.
Cathy Oates, event director,
told us: “The European Hotel
Design Awards are the Oscars
of the industry. We had a great
evening rewarding those projects
that have proved to be the best
in their class.”
