Election fever has already started.
Since the chimes of Big Ben
rang-in 2010, newspapers have
been full of articles on the
forthcoming general election.
Unusually for the UK, the
campaigns started early. Labour
have confronted
in-party
disagreements
while the
Conservatives
went public with
their toughtalking
slogan,
“We can’t go
on like this”.
So as the months
pass, expect to
be embroiled in dinner party
conversations as we borrow
a slice of the political enthusiasm
of our US cousins.
But with many women still
unsure of what each of the parties
can offer, we asked the women’s
ministers from the Labour,
Conservative, Lib Dem and Green
parties to tell us what they intend
to do for women should their
party take office this May (page 8).
For the first time in 13 years
we will influence a tough,
well-fought election… it’s going
to be an exciting five months.
