Over the past few weeks reports
have emerged that the mancession
gripping the States is making its
way across the Atlantic. New
figures show men are losing their
jobs twice as fast as women, which
is compounded by the fact that
women are also
landing more
jobs than men.
Add to this the
prediction that
there will be
more female
millionaires than
male by 2010,
and it’s clear
women are
moving ever
nearer to closing the gender pay
gap and smashing the glass ceiling.
However, there are some
professions where women are still
seriously outnumbered by men.
Take the world of politics. Recent
figures claim women constitute
just 19.5% of all MPs currently
serving in the UK, which is why
Britain’s youngest MP, 27-year-old
Chloe Smith, is so inspiring. Keen
