THE CONVERTED
12TH-CENTURY MILL
Tuddenham Mill is quite literally in the middle
of nowhere, hidden in the Suffolk countryside
a short drive from Newmarket – making it perfect
for those wanting a tranquil, chaos-free weekend
in a truly unique building.
A refurbished 12th-century mill set in spacious
grounds, it combines quirky original features
(the bar has a waterwheel) with modern luxury
– 15 rooms boast flatscreen TVs, top-notch
sound sytems, Jo Malone bath products, Missoni
bathrobes and freestanding baths you could
fit a family of four in.
We rested our weary heads in a minimalist
loft suite with balcony (although you can go for
the rustic beam look too) and we loved its 6ft bed,
remote-controlled fire (seriously) and walk-in ‘rain
shower’ that made
CHIC COUNTRY
HIDEAWAYS
Time to grab your significant other, don your Hunter wellies,
escape the city and indulge in some Valentine’s R&R
us want to stay in our room and exist
on room service for the rest of our
lives. There was even a telescope with
which to peruse the night sky!
Food and drink plays a big part at
Tuddenham Mill, with a menu packed
with local produce that reflects the
seasons. The steak comes highly
recommended and, if you can’t decide,
they do a taster menu (£70 per person)
which is definitely a worthy treat. Top
tip: get a window seat in the restaurant
for a beautiful view of the illuminated
lake and surrounding countryside.
For that extra special Valentine’s treat, a
mid-week spa package is available which includes

stay and exist on room service
for the rest of our lives”
