Last week a new book landed
in the Stylist office and outraged
every woman in the room. It was
author Lori Gottlieb’s new book
entitled Marry Him: The Case
For Settling For Mr Good Enough;
the focus of which suggests
that any single
woman over
the age of 30
should settle
up and marry
a ‘compromise’
man. I’m sure
you can imagine
the conversation
that ensued
(most of which
is unprintable).
We took issue
with this on so many counts
(having to settle/why men aren’t
given the equivalent advice etc
etc), but what riled us most was
the suggestion that women can
only be happy if they follow the
traditional dream – marriage and
kids. Isn’t it possible that women
can find happiness elsewhere?
We knew such a discussion
point had to be investigated
further... If only to prove Gottlieb’s
research wrong. Our findings are
revealed on page 42, take a read
