Parenting guru turns
her hand to politics
Gina Ford, the controversial author
famous for the bestselling parenting
guide Contented Little Baby Book,
has turned away from the playpen
and towards Parliament by launching
her own blog at contentedbaby.com/
contentedpoliticians. In the run-up
to the general election the 49-yearold
child-rearing guru will be giving
her slant on politicians’ pledges,
promises and visions for the future,
IF ALEXA HAS,
THEN WE
WANT TOO
particularly on issues that concern
families and children.
Ford’s unlikely move into politics
comes after Nick Clegg, leader of
the Liberal Democrats and father of
three, attacked Ford’s parenting
methods, likening them to “sticking
babies in broom cupboards”. He also
said, “It was like following a sort of
Ikea assembly instruction manual.
It made us feel strangely passive
TREND
You might not like what we’re about
to say, but clogs are about to have
another fashion moment. Chanel,
Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu all showed
clogs clo as a focal point of their
spring/summer s
collections,
and where designers go, the
high street always follows.
But these aren’t the
frumpy clogs we saw in
the Seventies, or the

as parents.” Proving the adage that
hell hath no fury like a woman
scorned, Clegg has unwittingly
signed him and his rivals up for
months of no-nonsense comment.
The mission statement on her
website reads like a call to arms: “As
individuals, we sometimes forget that
we can affect things,” she says.“But
that is exactly what our vote is for.”
Be afraid, MPs, be very afraid.
Clogs: the unlikely ‘It’ shoe
cumbersome shoe of the
mid-Nineties, this time round
they have sky-high chunky
heels, bright prints and flowers.
If you’re skeptical of this trend
you’re in good company. The fashion
world is divided over whether
we’re ready for the clog comeback.
The verdict may still be out but
Stylist is confident everyone will
be wearing them by spring.

Glee launch album
First E4’s Glee took over our
Monday nights. Now it’s about to
invade our eardrums with its
infectiously camp showtunes and
covers with a new album. The Emmy
Award-winning Glee cast’s version
of Don’t Stop Believin’ and unique
takes on Rihanna will no doubt be
stuck on the stereo.
