This summer’s sweetest (and chicest) trend
ashion showed its
softer side this season
as the summer catwalk
F shows were awash with
sweet shades of eau de
nil, violet, blush pink, clotted cream
and baby blue. These sorbet shades,
like their culinary counterpart, make
a refreshing change.
If you’re used to sporting khaki
and denim, this shift of mood can be
difficult to deal with. We recommend
you follow the lead of Versace and
Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein.
Although they featured ice-cream
colours, the shapes were modern –
using crinkle-finished fabrics and
unexpected splits for a surprising
twist. Search out simple, relaxed
shapes: a pair of pleat-front trousers,
or a bold A-line skirt in a sugarcoated
shade is the best way to work
the prettiest micro-trend of the
season. And while some designers,
such as John Rocha and Donna
Karan, worked pastels top-to-toe, in
the real world it’s best to mix them
with crisp neutrals like white or dove
grey. For weekend looks, pale denim
or washed-out chambray look cool.
