Proof: booking a holiday
can change your life
We’ve all sat on holiday watching
a sunset, Mojito in hand, and vowed to
change our lives on our return. Well
now it seems those musings aren’t
just distant pipe dreams.
Over half of all life-changing decisions
are made on holiday and turned into
reality the minute we clear customs,
according to a new survey by luxury
travel experts Kuoni. These findings
have given birth to a new trend; the
ART
Never intentionally seen without her trademark sunglasses, American Vogue editor
Anna Wintour, the most revered (and feared) fashion editor of recent times, has
been immortalised by Pop artist, Alex Katz, lens-free and looking – dare we say it
– rather gentle. The artist, who painted Wintour last year, asked
her to remove her glasses after noticing her “lovely” eyes in
the documentary The September Issue. And Wintour later said
of her experience, “I couldn’t think of a nicer way to spend
the afternoon.” The piece will take pride of place in
Katz’ upcoming National Portrait Gallery exhibition,
Alex Katz Portraits, which will run from 15 May.

‘changecation’ – holidays taken in
order to make big decisions. Of those
surveyed, 74% said that a romantic
getaway can make or break their
relationship, with almost all of us either
deciding to spice them up or bin them
entirely on our return. And 58% of
those who discuss divorce while away
take immediate action once back home.
Changecations aren’t always good
news for bosses, either. With work/life
balance being the biggest holiday
talking point, 28% of people decide to
change their job post-holiday, a figure
which increases the more you earn.
The Kuoni report also revealed that
most of us consider a holiday to be
more important than ever during the
recession, with 30% of us preferring
to save for a week away rather than for
a new house. Sounds like the perfect
excuse to book that break.

Take time out to cook up some fun
The humble macaron has always
been a culinary favourite. Perhaps
it’s the fact they’re tricky to master
or simply because they taste so
delicious. L’atelier des Chefs
(atelierdeschefs.co.uk), London’s
unique cookery school, aims to
inject some serious fun into the
creation of these sweet treats.
‘All About… Marvellous
Macarons’ is a two-hour session
where you learn the gastronomic
art behind their creations. Recipes
include vanilla and praline, and
dark chocolate and mandarin.
The key is choosing the right
“pureDKNY, the
ideal escape from
our hectic world”
ingredients and the same applies
when creating the perfect
fragrance. A drop of vanilla in
water is at the heart of pureDKNY,
the latest fragrance for women
from the DKNY family. This
comforting scent provides the ideal
escape from our hectic world.
