he film adaptation of Alice
Sebold’s bestseller The
T Lovely Bones is currently
racking up impressive
figures at the box office
as thousands of us dash to see if it can
possibly live up to her 2002 novel. Last

And 2010 is the year of the book
adaptation so Stylist suggests it’s time
to get a head start on the amazing books
that Hollywood has plans for, so you can
read them before they hit the silver
screen. Here is Stylist’s round-up of
THE GIRL
WHO
PLAYED
WITH FIRE
BY STIEG LARSSON
The book This is the
second book in the
bestselling Millennium
trilogy by journalist turned
author Stieg Larsson.
Sadly, Larsson never got
to enjoy his books’
worldwide success as he
died of a heart attack
aged 50 before seeing any
of them in print. The crime
novels feature the unique
heroine, Lisbeth Salander,
an exceptionally intelligent
but troubled young
computer hacker.
Together with investigative
financial journalist Mikael
Blomkvist, they solve
a series of crimes in
Sweden, this time
surrounding a sextrafficking
ring.
The film The film
adaptation of the first in
the trilogy, The Girl With
The Dragon Tattoo is out
in cinemas this Friday and
has already received rave
reviews from critics for its
accurate portrayal of the
dark and gripping novel
and excellent casting of
Mikael and Lisbeth. As
book sales continue to
rocket, expect the
second film to have
a bigger budget and
slicker production.
LOVE
AND OTHER
IMPOSSIBLE
PURSUITS
BY AYELET WALDMAN
The book Set in New
York, Love And Other
Impossible Pursuits'
heroine is Emilia
Greenleaf, a woman
consumed with grief
after the death of her
baby daughter. Her life
is even more intolerable
thanks to the difficult
relationship with her
highly strung, lactoseintolerant
five-year-old
step-son, William, as
well as her husband
John’s difficult first
wife, Carolyne.
The film Already
wrapped and out in the
States last September, the
biggest surprise is seeing
Natalie Portman cast as a
wife and (step)mother.
Lisa Kudrow plays the
bitter first wife and Lauren
Ambrose from Six Feet
Under also stars. Expect a
media circus surrounding
the film’s release. Why?
Author Ayelet Waldman
became an overnight hate
figure after writing an
article claiming that she
loved her husband
(novelist Michael Chabon)
more than her kids, and is
sure to reveal more
controversial opinons to
fuel publicity for the film.
