STYLIST ADVERTORIAL
IN LOVE WITH A CON MAN
Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor star in a tale of life, love and serial conning
Love You Phillip
Morris is the
incomprehensibly
I true story of one of
the most flamboyant
criminals in history. Steven Russell,
played by the ever charismatic Jim
Carrey, is a small-town policeman
and one-woman man – until a severe
car accident changes his life forever.
Russell embarks upon a colourful
journey as a con man and is soon
swept up in a romance with fellow
prison inmate Phillip Morris (played
by Ewan McGregor).
A highlight of Russell’s conning
career came when he managed to
fake his way into a job as a finance
officer, where he invested in short-term
accounts. He slowly siphoned
off an estimated £535,000 for
himself. A trickster through and through,
he also managed to walk out of prison,
where he was being held for insurance
fraud. During his time there he hid magic
markers from a prisoners’ art class then
“Russell stole over
£535,000 and
escaped from prison
numerous times”

IN I LOVE YOU PHILLIP
MORRIS, JIM CARREY PLAYS
CON MAN STEVEN RUSSELL
dyed his prison whites green to match
the medical staff’s uniforms. Then, one
day, he simply walked out.
But it’s the love story between
Steven and Phillip that will really hit
home with audiences. Steven’s feelings
of lovesickness, obsessive behaviour
and yearning for that person who
will change your life are universally
recognised – and his cons will go
down in history as some of the most
audacious of all time.

the classic signs of lying.
LIARS
1 LOOK
LEFT
People who are
right-handed (can
be reversed for
left) will look to the
right when they are
remembering
facts. But if they
have to construct
a story they will
look to the left.
A LIAR’S EYES
WILL LOOK TO
THE LEFT
IT’S THE WAY
2 THAT YOU SAY IT
When people’s
gestures don’t match their
expressions they could be
fibbing. For instance, if someone
says they love you while they’re
frowning, it’s likely they don’t.
WHAT A STORY
3 When people lie they
often over-elaborate
their answers, especially if it’s
a preconceived porky they’ve
been practising. It will feel like
they’re giving you an over-long
answer to a simple question.
PHYSICAL STATUES
4 When lying, people
tend to subconsciously
restrict their movements,
believing if they don’t move they
won’t get spotted. Body
language becomes restricted
and they have less hand, arm
and leg movements than usual.
FACE TOUCHING
5 People will touch their
face more often than
usual while lying. Look out for
a change in skintone, too –
especially a red flush.
