Hepburn’s dresses
go up for auction
Nobody pulled off understated elegance like
Audrey Hepburn, and now her inimitable style
is up for grabs. This December, a collection of her
most iconic dresses will be auctioned off at the
La Galleria in London, in the biggest ever sale
of the actress’s clothes.
Dating from 1953 to the late Sixties, the
collection includes more than 30 outfits worn
by Hepburn, many created by Givenchy, her
favourite designer. Expect to bid £10,000 to
£15,000 for a Givenchy blue silk cocktail dress,
£8,000 to £12,000 for the Chantilly lace cocktail
number she wore in How To Steal A Million and
around £15,000 for a black silk dress Hepburn
wore when promoting Paris When It Sizzles.
The collection also includes hats, belts and
letters penned by the actress herself, as well as
the Elizabeth Arden dress Hepburn wore when
she met her first husband, Mel Ferrer, in 1953.
And if you can’t afford to invest in one of her
frocks, they will be exhibited for two days before
the auction begins. A girl’s got to get her fashion
inspiration from somewhere, after all.
