Britain’s acting
royalty unite to
play the Queen
What do you get if you mix five leading
British actresses, England’s monarch
and an Emmy-award winning
producer? The most exciting British
docu-drama of the year, that’s what.
The creative brains at Channel 4 have
documented the five decades of
Elizabeth II’s reign and enlisted Emilia
Fox, Samantha Bond, Susan Jameson
and Diana Quick to play Her Royal
Highness at different stages of her life.
Produced by Emmy award-winning
documentary maker Marion Milne, The
Queen mixes dramatised scenes with
news archive and insider testimony.
Emilia Fox told Stylist: “I’m
privileged to play someone I have such
respect for, but only realised what a

challenge it was when I started
rehearsing. The Queen has such a
recognisable way of speaking but
when I recorded myself playing it at
home it sounded like an appalling
remake of Brief Encounter!
