Join Manhattan’s elite in The Hamptons
Everyone’s heard of The Hamptons…
especially if they’ve been glued to
Sex And The City for the last decade.
Of course, it’s where New York’s
socialites flock to in the summer
months, bidding farewell to the
frenetic pace and heat of the city to
say hello to decadent dining and sandy
beaches. And now so should you.
To really get a feel for this Long
Island enclave – made up of East
Hampton, Southampton,
Westhampton, Bridgehampton and
surrounding villages – aim to stay for
at least two nights in one of the chic
hotels. Stylist recommends The
Maidstone on Main Street, East
Hampton, a super-stylish design hotel.
Its colonial white exterior with green
dollhouse shutters will make
you feel like Anne Of Green
Gables while the quirky,
contemporary décor is
unmistakeably luxe boutique.
The Maidstone’s rooms,
suites and cottages are all
uniquely themed. If you’re into
bold and sexy, book the Edvard
Munch room with its black wallpaper,
gilt headboard and black Swedish slate
bathroom. For those with a taste for
more conventional design, Stylist loved
the muted, minimal New Englandmeets-Stockholm
Tove Jansson room.
Once unpacked – the daytime look
here is preppy and casual, while
evening is understated glam – take
yourself on a whimsically old-fashioned
day out and pedal one of the hotel’s
super-cute vintage bicycles to Main
Beach (where Carrie and co
sunbathed in Sex And The City), with
a picnic-for-two packed by the hotel’s
Scandinavian-American fusion
restaurant, The Living Room.

Street where you’ll find outposts of
high-end names like Elie Tahari, J Crew
and Catherine Malandrino. Stylist fell
in love with independent boutique Blue
& Cream which stocks harder-to-find
‘buzz’ labels including Halston Heritage
and Zac Posen. For those on a romantic
break, there’s a Tiffany & Co here too
for those ‘spontaneous’ purchases.
Why it’s hot The Hamptons is the
ultimate in pop-up chic, operating
during a three-month window before
the harsh East Coast winter draws
in (all but a few shops, hotels and
restaurants close their doors not long
after Labor Day Weekend in early
September) which all adds to the
exclusivity of holidaying here. It’s
also perfect for twinning with a city
break to NYC. Just book a seat on
the Hampton Jitney to get you from
city to sea in around three hours.

For dinner, Stylist hit the deck of
East Hampton Point overlooking the
luxury yachts floating in Three Mile
Harbor. We opted for chef Craig
Atwood’s locally sourced steak and
a bottle of red from a nearby winery.
Night owls should sip cocktails on
the terrace of East Hampton’s Lily
Pond or throw some shapes in its
chandelier-decked main room. Dress to
kill – it’s bursting with A-list names.
Photo opportunity The Hamptons’
beaches are not to be missed. Get snap
happy with the dunes and winding
wooden fences at Wainscott Beach –
white sand lined with some of the most
expensive real estate on Long Island,
including Calvin Klein’s holiday pad.
