on her face? “Absolutely Fabulous was
one of my all-time favourites. Seinfeld
is another. I was watching something
called Oops TV [a bloopers show hosted
by Justin Lee Collins] this morning and
I was laughing so much I almost fell off
my treadmill. It’s really funny.”
Ah the dreaded ‘treadmill’. You
didn’t think Jen got a body like that by
sitting on the sofa eating Kettle Chips
did you? Jen admits she is very
disciplined with her health but that her
last meal would be, “Mexican. It’d be
chips and guacamole, quesadillas,
enchiladas, a big tostada salad. And
nachos.” Jen gets particularly animated
when discussing her love of Mexican
food. Even her two publicists who are
keeping keen eyes on the clock get
involved. “I’ve said this before but you
guys [the British] have really gotta
work on your Mexican restaurants. You
really do. You gotta get homemade
tortillas and home-fry those things.”
JENNIFER REGULARLY CHOWS
DOWN ON NACHO CHIPS AND
GUACAMOLE. NOPE, LIFE
REALLY ISN’T FAIR
“My biggest
personal
triumph was
Friends: 10
years of a show
that was loved
by so many
people”
Is this a hint of Aniston the domestic
goddess? Right now, sporting nude
fingernails and toes, with a gobstopper
of a rock on her middle finger, the
image of Jen elbow-deep in flour is
hard to compute. Can she cook?
She laughs. “No! But I can make
tortilla chips and great guacamole.
In fact I can cook and I actually would
like to, if I had time to…”
It’s around this point, as Jen is
warming up, that I’m aware that our
precious 10 minutes isn’t going to last
much longer, so we move on to her
new perfume. Why, when she has
so much on her plate did she take on
a perfume? “It really was an exciting
process and the only reason I was
actually interested in doing it was
because of the involvement that they
allowed me to have.”
And what was her inspiration
behind the scent? “Natural outdoor
smells. Clean, beachy, summertime
smells. I wanted this fragrance to be
a personal library of scent memories.
Growing up in California, I distinctly
remember the scent of jasmine on
summer evenings. I consider the scent
of the ocean to be one of life’s most
uplifting sensual experiences.”
Although she exudes that friendly
girl-next-door persona, Jen has always
had keen business sense. And it is this
that has ensured her success. As well
as her acting career, she has her own
film production company, Echo Films,
with best friend Kristin Hahn who calls
Jen a “brilliant businesswoman”.
PRESS INTRUSION
But while talking to Jen about her
work, I start to wonder how I’d cope
with having every inch of my life
scrutinised by the press. I can’t imagine
I’d like to read about my love life,
twisted and soured, by people who’ve
never met me, and when I ask what she
wishes for in the future it’s the first hint
that she’s a bit jaded by the press
intrusion into her private life. “Gosh,
I’d like to end the war, no more oil
spills, peace.” Any personal wishes?
“Yeah I don’t want to talk about my
personal wishes. I have those, but
they’re personal.”
I can tell from Jen’s publicist that my
minutes are ticking but I want to know
what her biggest personal triumph is.
“Friends: 10 years of a show that was
really loved by so many people. Even
now I can’t believe how many people
still say they watch it every day,
however many times a day. I’m like,
‘What do you do all day? Where do you
watch it?’ I can never find it.”
Her favourite moment on the show?
“An episode guest-starring Ben Stiller
and the chick and the duck, me
exploding with anger when I was
pregnant and waiting to give birth and
everyone else was going before me.
There really are so many funny
moments and so many amazing
memories of that show. I’m very lucky.”
And with that, Jen is on to the next
interview. And, as I steal a glance at
my watch, I discover I still had
two minutes on the clock!
